Lowest rainfall since 1964 sparks subsidence surge prediction
24/08/2010
Many in the insurance industry are expecting to see a surge in subsidence claims after the driest start to the year since 1964.
Forecasters have said this summer could be in the region of 27% drier than the average in the South East and East Anglia. Official statistics from the Met Office state that rainfall, in the first five months of 2010, is at the lowest levels since 1964.
The subsidence team at Merlin are keeping a close watch on the situation and will be keeping all clients fully updated of any changes to the situation. Mike Dupelycz, Head of Subsidence commented "We are fully prepared to handle any increase in claims. Our whole business model is flexible and agile and in line with all Merlin divisions, our surge plans are well in place to deal with any increase in claims volume”.
Frazer Fletcher, Chief Engineer at Merlin, believes it is too early to predict a surge in subsidence claims at this stage, particularly given other influencing factors. To view client advice prepared by Frazer Fletcher, please follow this link News Bulletins - Subsidence
